Grey Soho

We are in the doldrums of winter in NYC and the warmth of spring seems tragically far away. The snow we got last week has melted and the city is grey, grey, grey. That’s exactly what I did with this outfit, go full steam ahead into the grey vibes of the New York streets. We had some various wedding errands to run on Sunday down around Soho. For whatever reason, maybe the cold weather, the streets were much quieter than they usually are down there. It was nice to be able to walk around the cobblestone streets and do some window shopping without having to navigate around hoards of people.

I got this grey plaid jacket on a whim, thinking that with the blue embroidered birds I would get selective use out of it. However the grey plaid is actually super versatile and find myself reaching for this coat again and again. It’s a little quirky but that’s what I like about it. With a price tag of $33 it was definitely a good buy. I did have to shorten the sleeves but otherwise I had no required alterations.

I’m a big fan of hats, always have been. In the summer I am constantly reaching for one of my straw fedoras and this winter I have been wearing my black fedora multiple times. When the weather is chilly a black fedora is a great alternative to a knit hat. Even a simple look gets elevated to trendy status just by throwing on a fedora. While there are plenty of affordable options (such as this one, or this one), you’d be smart to invest in a nicer version as this hat style is definitely one that will be around forever.

I have to give a shout out to these boots as they have become my favorite pair this winter. Jeff got these for me for Christmas and I must say he did good. The heel is low enough to wear all day but the sleek style and pointy toe make these boots still wearable for dinner or drinks. Chelsea boots are not something new so you may already have a pair in your closet. If you don't and are in the market, I highly recommend this pair from Marc Fisher. You won't be disappointed!
