Packing for vacations can be tricky. On the one hand you want to have options (who doesn’t, right?) for what to wear but at the same time you are limited by your suitcase space. If you are like me, you want to avoid checking your bag at all costs - added fees, potential lost luggage, extra time waiting at the airport…no thanks.
So what’s the solution? Be strategic about what you bring along in your carry-on suitcase so that you have maximum outfit options with minimum baggage. Over the years I have had some successful and less than successful packing experiences and learned a good deal about what works and what doesn’t. Today’s post is all about packing tips and tricks, just in time before heading off on your holiday getaways. Let’s get going!
A Few Helpful Tips
The name of the game here really is versatility aka. the ability to mix and match to create multiple looks. Focus on neutrals or one color palette to enable the greatest number of combinations from the least amount of items.
Think about how you can take all your clothing items and be able to dress them up or down. Small items that pack a big punch like red lipstick or statement earrings are perfect for transitioning something like a sweater into a night time look without taking up any extra luggage space.

Inflatable Footrest - I got this before going on my Italy trip and it was great. It really helps you recline and get the stretched out feeling. It does take up some room though so you may need to have a smaller bag at your feet when using it. You may feel a little ‘extra’ when blowing it up on the plane but whatever, they’re just jealous!
Neck Pillow - This one from Muji is impossibly soft and cozy; I end up using it open and laid out as a pillow a lot too. You can unzip the outside to machine wash as well after your trip (so essential).
Packing Cubes - I got these years ago and swear by them. It makes it sooo much easier to find things in your suitcase and keep organized. I recommend getting the Starter Set; the compression set is great to maximizing suitcase space.
