Visiting Burano Italy
On our last day in Venice we took a short ferry ride to visit the small island of Burano. I had read about Burano being a great day trip from Venice and I’m glad we were able to squeeze it in before heading back to Milan. It was a grey day when we visited but it only made the bright poppy colors of the buildings even more charming. We wandered around the canals and narrow streets picking out our favorite colors and homes.
For some background on the town itself - Burano is a fishing village. Originally the colorful buildings served a functional purpose, two purposes in fact - it enabled fisherman to spot their homes from out on their boats and it helped to delineate where one home ended and the other began. Over the years the town of Burano began to be known for it’s colorful homes and the residents really embraced the tradition. Today the homes are bright, cheerful shades that are a truly wonderful sight to see.
When packing for my relatively short trip to Italy (just about one week) I wanted to be strategic about the clothing I selected. I was bringing only a carry-on suitcase so I needed items that were versatile but also one’s that I loved wearing - since I would be wearing them more than once. These jeans and sneakers are two items that got lots of love on this trip! On Wednesday I will be sharing the top 10 items I’m packing this winter on my travels along with some other packing tips and tricks. Make sure to come back and check it out!
