Top Shoes To Invest In
Many of us can agree that shoes can make or break an outfit. What I’ve found over the years is that I can wear a cheap top, budget jeans and a fast-fashion coat; as long as I have high-quality shoes on then the entire look can appear chic and stylish. This is not to say that you can’t find good shoes on a budget. However I would rather invest a little more up front to get a pair of shoes I love and know I will get a ton of wear from than buy something cheaper that I just don’t like as much. Those cheaper options end up sitting in my closet and become a waste of money simply because I don’t like them as much and never want to wear them. Today I’m breaking down my picks for the Top Shoes to Invest In. Some of my picks cost more than others but what they all have in common is their versatility. I want shoes that I can wear many times to many events and with many outfits. So here they are -
Nude Patent Pumps
If there is one pair of shoes I recommend investing in it would be a pair of pointy toe nude pumps. I have worn this pair of Christian Louboutin patent leather pumps so many times the cost per wear must be down to 10 cents by now. I wear them at least three times a week at work (I often leave them at the office) with pants, skirts and dresses. I’ve worn them to weddings, cocktail events and showers. The pair I have is the Decolette which to me is the perfect height to be sexy and sophisticated but actually remain both walkable and comfortable. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, this pair and this pair make great substitutes.
I had been searching for a great pair of black boots for a while now. I wanted something that was versatile enough that I could wear them to work in the winter with tights and dresses, to drinks with a nice top or just walking around the city on the weekends. This pair of Chelsea boots from Marc Fisher met all my criteria and are super comfortable to boot (forgive me). The Chelsea style is chic and classic, meaning I will definitely get a lot of use from these guys for seasons to come. I’ve worn these boots with jeans and layers (as in this post) as well as with dresses. They make a great day to night winter boot option.
I resisted my desire to buy a pair of Golden Goose sneakers for a long time. I just could not justify the price even though I loved the casual-cool attitude they applied to any look they are paired with. After seeing Net-A-Porter style them with countless looks (here, here, here) I was convinced that they were a worthy investment given their versatility (can you see a trend here?). I ended up ordering my pair through Matchesfashion.com and since receiving them have worn them already a ton. Like almost every day a ton. Right now I’m pairing my Golden Goose sneakers with jeans and sweaters (as in this post) though once we get some warmer weather I plan to pair them with dresses and denim shorts.
Statement Nude Heels
As soon as I saw these Loeffler Randall tassel heeled sandals I knew I had to have them. As I’ve said to a few people, if I were a shoe I would be this shoe. This is another pair that has gotten so much wear I couldn’t begin to estimate how many times I’ve worn them. I wore these all summer to work with skirts and dresses, to get dinner or drinks and to multiple weddings. This exact pair is still available in a few select sizes (here, here, here). I’ll be watching to see if Loeffler Randall comes out with a new version this spring.
Neutral Wrap Sandals
I first saw these Madewell sandals on Sincerely Jules two years ago and became obsessed with them. But alas they had totally sold out! I searched for a similar pair to no success. The following spring I checked back at Madewell to see if they had re-stocked them and they had! It was still cold outside but I immediately ordered both the black and the tan. Let me say, it was one of the best shoe decisions I ever made. I lived in these sandals all last summer as they work with dresses, skirts, shorts, jeans...you name it. You can see them in this post, this post and this post. Since they are such a good seller I imagine Madewell will bring them back again this year (I checked, they aren’t up yet), but you can get a similar look from this pair or this pair.
So there you have it, my favorite versatile shoe picks. Let me know your favorites that I don’t know about! I’m always on the hunt for great styles I will get a ton of wear from!
