How To Beat the Summer Heat

Top : Magill // Skirt : Magill // Sunglasses : Old Navy (similar) // Bag : old // Shoes : Sam Edelman (similar)

I think we all can agree, when it's super hot and muggy the lighter the clothing the better. Anything fitted, restrictive or thick I want nothing to do with. When at the beach or doing something casual on the weekends I am a big fan of shorts, particularly of the denim variety. But during the week with work and various events I want to look more polished yet still avoid sweating whenever possible.

While I like dresses, I must admit there is something about skirts that I love perhaps even more. I like the versatility of them as they can be mixed and matched with all different tops to create totally different looks. I had been eying up some high-low ruffled skirts (this one, this one and this one to name a few) and wanted to create something similar for my summer wardrobe. I got this fabric not realizing how tropical it looked, but ended up loving the effect in this new skirt silhouette I developed.

Going to get some drinks after work I paired it with another piece I made, this cropped swingy cream tank. I wore this top for my wedding rehearsal dinner and have pulled it out numerous times since. I love the high neckline and flattering armhole shape. Will definitely be making this in another color for myself. Both this skirt and the top will be available for sale in October, make your calendars now!

On another note - I am loving these rose gold heels from Sam Edelman. The are super comfortable, easy to wear and go with everything. While my exact color is no longer available, but they have them in so many colors and prints too, a few of my favorites are this mustard velvet and this berry suede.
