Beauty Products and Tips To Prepare for Spring

As we approach a new season I am re-evaluating my beauty and self-care routine to get myself ready. Today’s post is just a quick share of which products I am using lately and why I love them!

Skincare

Face Masks - I have combination skin so my t-zone gets super oily while my cheeks get red and dry. Lucky me. When I am using a face mask I keep this in mind and put a mask specific to each area’s needs in that location. Recently I have been using this Kiko mask on my cheeks and this L’Oreal mask on my t-zone. Jeff got me this pack of sheet masks for Christmas and I have been slowly making my way through them. I will sometimes do my two-mask combo first and then finish with the sheet mask when I am feeling extra into self-care.

The Ordinary - I got a handful of items from The Ordinary about a month ago and after using them religiously I am loving the results. Below is an overview of what I have been using and my thoughts -

  • Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

    • What it does - Brightens the skin tone while visibly improving the evenness of skin texture and reducing the look of blemishes.

    • My thoughts - I use this every morning and have seen a great improvement in my skin’s texture and evenness.

  • Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

    • What it does - Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.

    • My thoughts - I was using this every night at first and my skin got way too dry and sensitive. I switched to every other night and have had less irritation. It has been doing a great job of keeping my acne-prone areas clear.

  • Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%

    • What it does - This formula combines two of the most powerful brightening agents in skincare: pure Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin, both solubilized in a completely water-free formula for ideal stability. Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant that brightens the skin tone and reduces signs of aging. Alpha Arbutin is a highly-purified biosynthetic active ingredient that reduces the look of dark spots and uneven skin tone.

    • My thoughts - I use this every night and have seen my skin brighten and begin to really glow. This is a great vitamin c to add to your skincare routine asap. It stings a little when you apply (it is an acid after all) but subsides quickly.

  • Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane

    • What it does - This water-free solution contains a 5% concentration of an advanced retinoid active complex called Granactive Retinoid that has been shown to offer better results against multiple signs of aging than retinol without any of the irritation and drawbacks common with retinol.

    • My thoughts - Brightened skin, more even tone and lessening of my crows feet make this one a winner in my book.

Body

Self-Tanner - I love a good spray tan as much as the next girl but sometimes I just don’t have time or patience to go get one done. So to get that golden tan at home I love St. Tropez. The mousse is tinted so it’s super easy to apply and see where you may have missed a spot. I’ll put it on at night, go to bed and wake up perfectly bronzed. The St. Tropez mitt is essential to keep your hands from getting stained so make sure you pick this up too.

Body Highlighter

I recently was on the hunt for a body shimmer/highlighter type product that I could use on the my shoulders or décolletage when wearing skin-baring items. I didn’t want anything too intense, just a subtle sheen to look glowier. Before spending any serious money I checked out CVS and lo-and-behold found exactly what I was looking for - Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Illuminator. It comes in two colors, I prefer the ‘Nude Glow’. While this is technically for your legs, it is a blendable and subtle highlight that can be used anywhere. Perfect for all those dresses come wedding season.

Other

Nail Polish - Ever since my wedding I have been obsessed with white/white-ish nail polish on both my hands and feet. The color is flattering, chic and just goes with everything. I have been a big fan of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel formula for awhile and the color “Get Mod” is my most recent favorite to get the white color I love.

So there you have it, how I’m getting my beauty routine in order before the real change in seasons hits. What other products do you love that I should check out? I’m all ears!
