My name is Emily Farina, I am a designer-turned-marketer born and raised on the Pennsylvania Main Line and a proud alumnus of Cornell University (BS) and Georgetown University (MBA). I currently live in San Diego, California and work in financial services marketing. I have a background in fashion design, as a Textiles and Apparel major at Cornell and having worked as a designer for BHLDN, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie.
Fizz and Fade is where I highlight my apparel designs, share style tips and fill you in on where to buy amazing pieces at affordable prices. All in an effort to show how to be the most stylish version of you, in an accessible way.
I hope you enjoy!
Where does the name 'Fizz and Fade' come from?
I am a lover of life and all things fun and beautiful. 'Fizz' represents the bubbly pop of champagne in celebration of all life has to offer. 'Fade' is in reference to trends coming and fading as well as the casual perfection of a faded pair of your favorite jeans.
When did you learn how to sew?
I first learned to sew in my middle school Home Economics class. Afterwards, I asked my mom to help me sew a pattern at home so I could make myself a skirt, I think it was to resemble an Abercrombie eyelet one I wanted. I continued sewing throughout high school, selling belts, bags and lounge pants that I made at local craft fairs. I then decided to major in fashion design in college and the rest is history.
I want to sew! How can I learn?
I suggest finding a used sewing machine on craigslist or ebay to get started. There are tons of books that provide all the basics you need to know. Pick a pattern you like and just try it out! The only way to learn is to get your hands dirty.
When are you going to start selling your designs?
Magill is up and running! I am working on new pieces all the time but you can shop the initial collection here.
