This is my first fall in San Diego and getting used to the weather has been a trip. We moved at the end of the summer so it was still pretty hot in New York City when we left. We came out to California and the warm weather continued, pretty much the same. Well now that we are in November I am starting to really experience the difference in living in Southern California from the East Coast. I love checking back on what the temperature is in New York and this past week there were days in the 30s! My New York friends reading this are most likely cursing me right now. In San Diego however, we have been in a consistent state of summer ever since we arrived. This past weekend it was high 70’s and sunny with nary a cloud in the sky - perfect beach weather, which is exactly what we did on Saturday.
Readers of my blog and followers of my instagram know that I love to take vintage pieces and re-work them into new styles. This dress is yet another example of such a re-work. I bought this as a large bohemian-type skirt. I loved the small floral pattern and pink, purple and blue colors in the print. I was playing around with the pattern of this mini dress this week- it’s a voluminous fit with a ruffle around the hem. It all gets cinched in with a sash at the waist. So cute right?! I really love the bohemian feel paired with the black accents of the leather jacket and espadrilles. Since this exact fabric is not available I will be looking for similar options to sell on my Magill shop page - let me know if you have particular fabrics you are interested in!
With such warm days I have had to adjust my wardrobe for the weather but still bring in some of my favorite fall pieces. This leather jacket I got way back when I started working after college. I decided to use one of my first paychecks to invest in a nice leather jacket…all the ones I had had before in college were cheap faux leather. While it was an investment, it has held up super well through constant use and gets softer and more supple every year. I highly recommend getting a nice leather jacket if you don’t already have one. It’s pricey but pays for itself when you can wear it year after year after year. This Madewell one is very similar to the moto style I have but I also love this shawl collar style and this cropped biker style.
