On June 22nd I married my best friend, Jeff. We went on our first date in 2010 and eight years later we tied the knot in Long Island City, New York in front of our families and dear friends. I’m sure most brides can attest to just how much work a wedding is. Planning our Big Day was no exception and quite stressful at times. However, it all came together in the most beautiful way and truly was the wedding of my dreams. We had the most incredible group of vendors who brought my vision to life and then some and with our families and friends there it was perfect.
Jeff and his Groom’s Squad got ready in the pool room of our venue, while my maids and I did all our prepping at our hotel, The Marmara Park Avenue.
When we got engaged and started planning our wedding there were obviously a lot of details to figure out, but I knew pretty much right away the vibe and mood I wanted for the event. I wanted things to feel modern, clean, elegant and organic. I’m not one for lots of embellishment or glitzy touches, so an industrial and raw space was what I set about looking for right from the start. We toured a number of places in Brooklyn and Queens, but all were a little too raw. To bring my vision of lush greenery to life I would need to bring in an entire garden center. So when we visited The Foundry it was the answer to everything I was seeking - industrial, organic, urban and full of greenery.
Colorwise, I kept the palette very simple and clean. White, black, greens with touch a touch of pale blue. I really wanted the greenery and flowers to be the focal point and did not want any other bright colors competing with that.
Ivie Joy truly made all my flower dreams come true and then some. The full, lush white blossoms had just enough wedding-ness without feeling too fussy or overwrought. I was obsessed with the idea of the long garlands down the barn tables (Jeff knows, I was do or die on those barn tables) and I loved the family-style, garden-party element it imparted on the event.
Last by not least, our caterer, Real Food, made everything come together like magic. Over the many months leading up to our wedding Yen and Gary were with us every step of the way. Helping and guiding us on food, event set-up and flow, timing and pretty much every other detail of the event planning. Not to mention they kept us laughing and enjoying the process the entire time.
