A good pair of statement earrings can take a ho-hum outfit to effortlessly chic with minimal effort. It’s the epitome of lazy-girl style and I am a big fan of it. For the past couple of years glitzy, gemstone over the top earrings have been all over but lately my favorite earrings include natural details like tortoiseshell and raffia. Pair them with something casual and classic like ripped denim and an oversized sweater for a chic and easy look.
Packing for vacations can be tricky. On the one hand you want to have options (who doesn’t, right?) for what to wear but at the same time you are limited by your suitcase space. If you are like me, you want to avoid checking your bag at all costs - added fees, potential lost luggage, extra time waiting at the airport…no thanks.
So what’s the solution? Be strategic about what you bring along in your carry-on suitcase so that you have maximum outfit options with minimum baggage. Over the years I have had some successful and less than successful packing experiences and learned a good deal about what works and what doesn’t. Today’s post is all about packing tips and tricks, just in time before heading off on your holiday getaways. Let’s get going!
A Few Helpful Tips
The name of the game here really is versatility aka. the ability to mix and match to create multiple looks. Focus on neutrals or one color palette to enable the greatest number of combinations from the least amount of items.
Think about how you can take all your clothing items and be able to dress them up or down. Small items that pack a big punch like red lipstick or statement earrings are perfect for transitioning something like a sweater into a night time look without taking up any extra luggage space.

Other Travel/Flight Essentials
Inflatable Footrest - I got this before going on my Italy trip and it was great. It really helps you recline and get the stretched out feeling. It does take up some room though so you may need to have a smaller bag at your feet when using it. You may feel a little ‘extra’ when blowing it up on the plane but whatever, they’re just jealous!
Neck Pillow - This one from Muji is impossibly soft and cozy; I end up using it open and laid out as a pillow a lot too. You can unzip the outside to machine wash as well after your trip (so essential).
Packing Cubes - I got these years ago and swear by them. It makes it sooo much easier to find things in your suitcase and keep organized. I recommend getting the Starter Set; the compression set is great to maximizing suitcase space.
Hands down my favorite dress style as of late is the long sleeve mini dress. The covered top half of this look is warm and seasonally appropriate while still getting a little bit of skin in before the real cold blows in. My top picks in long sleeve dresses are dark florals, rich navy velvet and vibrant red prints. All of these dresses would be perfect for holiday parties, grabbing drinks or even for work. Just toss on a jacket, black tights and booties and you’re good to go!
I'm a print-lover, through and through. In the hot summer months my wardrobe and my apparel designs are dominated by colorful florals. Now that we are starting to transition into fall my print proclivity is shifting to more geometric and organic shapes.Read More
Hats are one of my favorite accessories, especially in the summertime heat. They add interest to an outfit, shade your eyes and protect your skin - all good things in the summer months! I have purchased a number of hats over the years but have found I come back to a handful of classic styles again and again. Knowing that I'll wear the hat many times over makes me more willing to invest in a high quality piece as well. Today's post features my three favorite hat styles for summer and where you can pick up one of each for yourself as well. Hats off to you.

Shopbop is having a crazy sale right now, just in time to start picking up some pieces to round out your Spring wardrobe. I as spoke about in this recent post, I'm all about versatility when it comes to buying clothing and accessories. Being able to wear the piece in questions multiple times and multiple ways is the main lens through which I make all shopping decisions. My picks for the current Shopbop sale are no different. Such as a striped sweater or long sleeve tee I can wear now and when the weather gets warmer or floral dresses that do double duty for the beach or afternoon events. Make sure you check out the sale for any key pieces you've been eying since the savings are pretty good!

As a fabric, gingham looks great in all kinds of silhouettes from dresses to skirts, even bathing suits and tops. Though it’s only February, there are tons of gingham pieces in the market right now. While gingham is great for warm weather, by pairing this fabric with darker and heavier pieces like a leather jacket or black jeans, you can definitely start wearing gingham now rather than waiting until summer rolls around.
Above are some of my favorites in the market right now. Click on each piece to get all the product details!
I’m a big fan of gingham and have been for a couple seasons now and definitely plan to pull this ruffled number I created last year out again this summer. I recently created a black gingham wrap top that I can’t wait to share with you guys soon too!
A striped top a is a perennial wardrobe staple, working equally well as a sweater, button-down or tee and can be worn anytime of year. I have a handful of blue and white striped pieces in my wardrobe and find myself reaching for them all the time.Read More
Lately I have been seeing lots of women dressing the same. The same as each other? No. Rather the same shade head to toe, ie. in a monochrome palette. The concept is nothing revolutionary, especially head to toe black in a city like New York.Read More
High-Waisted Black Skinny Jeans
Is there anything more flattering than black skinny jeans? They are slimming and can be worn pretty much anywhere and with anything. I've had a few great pairs over the years, but my current favorite is this pair from Urban Outfitters (seen in this post and this post). I wear them all . the . time. I need to get another pair before the ones I have totally wear out. While you can definitely find some pricier skinny jeans, I am partial to the wallet-friendly options like these from Old Navy and these from H&M.
- H&M Skinny Ankle Jeans - Only $9.99!
- Old Navy High Rise Rockstar Jeans
- BDG Twig High Rise Skinny Jean - I wear these constantly!
High-Waist Mom Jeans
I waited awhile before hopping on the mom jean trend because I just didn't think they would flatter my petite shape. But once I got this pair from H&M (seen here , here and here)....game changer. The straight leg and high cut feels modern and retro at the same time. I love how I can tuck in any shirt or sweater and still get a flattering fit. My H&M pair is a little wider through the leg, so I have been looking for an additional style that is just a bit slimmer. I've had my eye on these H&M jeans, but after seeing this Gap style I may be looking to get those instead.
Hello 2018! I for one am super excited to move into a new year and get a fresh start. I got a new planner for Christmas and have already been using it a ton to plot out upcoming plans and daily to-do lists. While I use my phone calendar to keep track of plans, personally I really like using a physical planner to keep organized. Anyway, now on to the actual topic of this post - colorful winter coats!
Winter is in full force and a warm coat is absolutely necessary here in NYC. There is much to be said for a great black, navy or camel coat, but these neutrals can get to be a bit boring after awhile. I hunted down some great pastel options to brighten up my outerwear with candy-colored shades of pink and blue. I especially love this bright pink funnel-neck style and this longline blue topper. Take that Winter doldrums!
Men can be hard to shop, any time of year but especially when the holidays roll around. Sure, they could probably use a new button down shirt or tie, but do they want that for Christmas? Of course not! They want something fun, useful or unique. Today's Gift Guide is full of ideas for the men in your life, be them boyfriends, husbands, dads, brothers or friends. Some are fun, others are useful and hopefully many fall under both camps. Happy shopping!
SprezzaBox Subscription - By now we are all familiar with subscription boxes, SprezzaBox is one your guy will actually use. For only $25/month, he'll get a box of stylish accessories such as a tie, socks, pocket square and tie clip. The best part, all pieces in each box coordinate into a chic look, no thinking required.
Super Tech Kit - Not only is this a super chic little travel case, contains all the necessary travel tech items; earbuds, flash drive, charging cable, phone stand, and more included.
Patagonia Retro-X Fleece Jacket - Functional yet still stylish, this Patagonia fleece is perfect for the guy who doesn't want to think about what he's wearing (but you want to give him some help).
Floris Travel Collection - Conveniently sized and airplane ready, these colognes are perfect for the guy on the go.
Polaroid 600 Camera - Who doesn't love a Polaroid!? Give him something fun to fiddle with this Christmas that will create some memorabilia in the process.
Charging Cable - Doesn't get much more practical than a charging cord, but this one is actually chic as well as functional.
Kiehl's Men's Starter Kit - Kiehls is a favorite of mine and I've gotten Jeff hooked on their Men's products as well. This kit includes all the essentials to get 'him' on the path to great skin.
Vans Leather Hi-Top Sneakers - Rather than try to convince your man to wear nicer shoes, why not just get him some leather sneakers that are both comfortable and stylish.
Knit Tech Gloves - Everyone needs a good pair of tech gloves, 'nuf said.
U-Turn Turntable - Whether relaxing or hosting, a record player takes music to the next level.
